MISSION VIEJO, Calif. —University of Hawai'i seniors
Juan Gonzalez and
Elma Lund completed a UH sweep of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Diving Championships by claiming the platform titles on Wednesday at the Marguerite Aquatics Center in Mission Viejo, Calif.
Gonzalez and Lund won their second events of the week and UH captured all six individual diving titles in the conference championship meet for the first time since 2019.
The UH men swept all three boards for the fifth time since 2007 and the first time since 2019. The UH women claimed three titles for the ninth time since joining the MPSF in 2012 and the first time since 2020.
Gonzalez won the men's 3-meter title on Tuesday and closed the meet by posting a career-best total of 370.85 on platform, the fourth highest score in program history. Fellow senior
Mackaby Pennington placed second with a score of 356.90, the program's sixth highest total. Pennington won the 1-meter title on Monday and the UH duo placed 1-2 in all three events this week.
Lund won the women's 3-meter championship on Monday, placed second in the 1 meter on Tuesday, and won the platform event for the second time in her career. She posted a score of 272.90 on Wednesday to add to her 2022 MPSF title in the event and UH claimed the top four spots in the standings. Junior
Isabella Plantz came in second at 204.50 followed by freshman
Ruby Pickron at 201.60 and senior
Isabelle Lombardi at 201.20. Lombardi won the 1-meter title on Tuesday.
The swimming portion of the MPSF Championships is set for Feb. 21-24 in St. George, Utah.
