McKoy Nabs Big West Player of the Week Honors

IRVINE, Calif. -- After a huge week that saw the Rainbow Warriors knock off two of the top three teams in the Big West, University of Hawai'i men's basketball player Justin McKoy earned Big West Player of the Week honors. It is the first such honor for  McKoy and the second time a UH player has gained the award this season.

The 6-8 forward averaged a double-double of 19.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game as UH defeated league heavyweights UC San Diego and UC Davis. For the week, he shot 67 percent from the floor (10-of-15), 67 percent on threes (4-of-6) and 88 percent from the line (15-of-17) and was part of a defensive effort that slowed down a pair of formidable offenses.

McKoy tied his career high with 22 points and added nine rebounds, four assists and three blocks in a 94-86 overtime win over UC San Diego. The graduate transfer from North Carolina was clutch down the stretch, making three key defensive plays in overtime, including a forced turnover and an errant shot on back-to-back possession in the final minute to help UH pull away from the Tritons.

Two nights later he notched a 17-point, 11-rebound double-double in UH's 87-70 rout of UC Davis. McKoy fueled UH's game-changing 18-2 run against the Aggies with 10 points, while hitting all three of his three-point attempts in the first half as the 'Bows built a double-digit lead it would maintain nearly throughout.

McKoy and the Rainbow Warriors next head to the road for a pair of road games at Cal Poly (Feb. 15) and UC Santa Barbara (Feb. 17).
