HONOLULU – The fourth-ranked University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team gave its fans a glimpse of the 2025 squad with a straight-set win over British Columbia in an exhibition match Monday at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. Set scores were 25-18, 25-14, 25-19.
The new-look Rainbow Warriors debuted with four new starters, including three freshmen, and looked in mid-season form. UH committed only nine attack errors in 69 attempts and finished with a .373 percentage. UH also totaled eight service aces, led by Clay Wieter's three, along with 7.5 team blocks.
Bulgarian Kristian Titriyski led the way with a match-high 12 kills, hitting .450 with four digs and three blocks. Frenchman Adrian Roure added eight kills in 13 errorless attempts while Wieter added four kills, three digs, and two blocks. Middle blocker
Kurt Nusterer had a team-high three blocks.
Dawson Pratt led UBC with nine kills and two aces. The Thunderbirds hit .139 as a team.
UH scored the first four points of the set and strung together five more for a 12-3 advantage. The lead reached double-digits at 16-6 after a Clay Wieter ace. Hawai'i went on to hit .286 in the set with five aces, including two each by Wieter and
Tread Rosenthal.
The Warriors trailed early in Set 2 before Wieter's service run ignited a 4-0 scoring run and gave UH the lead. Moments later, a 6-1 run extended the lead to 16-9 and the Warriors didn't look back. UH hit .600 in the set.
Hawai'i jumped out to an early lead in Set 3. A 5-1 run made it 15-9 and Titriyski's ace pushed the lead to 19-11.
UH will open the regular season with a two-match series against McKendree, Friday, Jan. 3 and Sunday, Jan. 5 at SimpliFi Arena.
