ROME, Ga.—The University of Hawai'i men's tennis doubles team of
Azuma Visaya and
Quinn Snyder won a pair of third-set, super tie-breaker wins to advance to the semifinals of the inaugural Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Conference Masers Championships on Friday at the Rome Tennis Center.
Visaya and Snyder had a bye in the Round of 32 to start the tourney. In the Round of 16, the UH duo took on Grand Canyon's Brice Patoux and David Wekesa. GCU took the first set by a break, but the 'Bows fought back to even it at a set a piece after taking the second set. In the quarterfinal round, Visaya and Snyder found themselves in a battle with Bellamine University's Jack Batchelor and Matthew Nice. Hawai'i won the first set, but the Bellamine duo held off UH in a second set tiebreaker to force the second third set super tiebreaker for Azuma and Snyder's day. UH prevailed, edging out Batchelor and Nice, 6-3, 6-7 (10), 1-0 (10-8).
With the two wins, Visaya and Snyder advance to the Semifinal Round to face top-seeded Mississippi State's Petar Jovanovic and Benito Sanchez Martinez
