ROME, Ga.—University of Hawai'i men's tennis player
Azuma Visaya split his matches on the opening day of the inaugural Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Conference Masers Championships on Thursday at the Rome Tennis Center.
Visaya opened the tourney strong, sweeping Texas Arlington's Andres Medus in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3 in the Round of 32.
But in the Round of 16, Visaya took on third-seeded Thomas Paulsell of Geargia. The first set was a battle with Paulsen edging out Visaya in a tiebreaker. But Visaya bounced back to even the match by winning set 2. Paulsell then rolled in the third set to advance to tomorrow's quarterfinals, 7-6 (5), 2-6, 6-0.
On Friday, Visaya and doubles partner
Quinn Snyder have a bye in Friday's first round and will play the winner of Brice Patoux/David Wekesa of Grand Canyon and Alin Fatu/Marko Milosavljevic of Jacksonville State in the Round of 16.
