Women's Basketball Hosts Bank of Hawai‘i Classic

HONOLULU — The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team opens its home schedule by hosting the Bank of Hawai'i Classic on Nov. 22 and 24 at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.
 
The Rainbow Wahine (1-1) will face Lousiana Monroe in an "Education Day" game at 11 a.m. on Friday in their home debut. They'll close the weekend against Eastern Washington in the tournament finale at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. Saint Mary's is also taking part in the tournament and will face Eastern Washington on Friday and Louisiana Monroe on Sunday.

Promotions We celebrate the start of the Rainbow Wahine home schedule with the Bank of Hawai'i Classic, featuring a total of four games over three days.
• We begin a new tradition on Friday with Education Day at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. The UH Athletics marketing department and the 'Bows will welcome 1,200 local keiki to attend the 11 a.m. tipoff against Louisiana Monroe.
• Students will receive a clear bag courtesy of sponsor Bank of Hawai'i filled with numerous goodies from sponsors such as Raising Cane's and The Old Spaghetti Factory. Each student will also receive a free hot dog courtesy of head coach Laura Beeman and a $5 voucher from Sodexo.
• Over the two-day tournament, fans will have a chance to win prize packs courtesy of Bank of Hawai'i. Bank of Hawai'i ti-leaf towels will also be tossed into the crowd after each made 3-pointer by the 'Bows!

  • UH split its season-opening road trip with a loss at Portland on Nov. 7 and a victory at Portland State on Nov. 8. The 'Bows then had a bye week to recharge and prepare for the first of back-to-back tournament weekends. UH will also host the American Savings Bank Rainbow Wahine Showdown Nov. 29-Dec. 1.
  • The Rainbow Wahine carry an 11-game home winning streak into their first weekend at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. UH went 13-3 at home overall last season and 10-0 in Big West play.
  • Guard Daejah Phillips earned the season's first Big West Player of the Week award on Nov. 11. The senior averaged 15 points per game while shooting 47.1% from the field in Hawai'i's trip to Portland and Portland State to open the season. Phillips also made 12 of 13 free throws on the road trip.
  • Phillips has 1,131 career points and is tied with Ayesha Brooks for 16th in program history.
  • UH set a program record for free-throw percentage in the season opener at Portland with a 25-for-25 performance from the line.
  • Freshman center Ritorya Tamilo scored 10 points in both of UH's first two games of this season on 6-for-10 shooting from the field.
  • UH is ranked 24th in the CollegeInsider.com Women's Mid Major Top 25 for the second straight week.
  • The 'Bows return 87% of their scoring from last season's 20-11 team and three players who earned All-Big West honors last season — Phillips (first team, Best Sixth Player), Lily Wahinekapu (second team), and Imani Perez (second team, All-Defensive team)
  • UH's 10 returning letterwinners include three fifth-year seniors in Phillips, Kelsie Imai and MeiLani McBee.
  • McBee has made 163 career 3-pointers and is four away from catching Megan Tinnin (2006-09, 11) for second in program history.
  • Along with 10 letterwinners, the 'Bows also welcomed guard Jovi Lefotu back to the rotation. Lefotu redshirted last season as she recovered from a knee injury suffered in January 2023. She averaged eight points off the bench in UH's first two games this season.

  • UH and Louisiana Monroe will meet for the first time in the Bank of Hawai'i opener.
  • The Warhawks started 3-0 and are coming off a 75-52 loss to No. 22 Alabama on Nov. 17.
  • Guard Meloney Thames leads ULM with 14.8 points per game and had a high of 27 against Southern Illinois.
  • Forwards Sakyla White and Laila Walker are tied for the team lead with 33 rebounds (8.3 per game).
  • ULM went 21-14 last season and advanced to the WNIT Great 8 in in Missy Bilderback's first season as head coach.

  • UH and Eastern Washington will meet for the sixth time and the first time since Dec. 19, 2000. The Rainbow Wahine won that game 81-59 in Mānoa, the first meeting since 1984.
  • EWU and UH both have a loss to Portland this season. EWU fell to the Pilots 74-62 on Nov. 17.
  • The Eagles went 29-6 last season and won the Big Sky Tournament to earn the program's first NCAA Tournament berth since 1987.
  • Graduate guard Peyton Howard leads the Eagles with 15.8 points per game with a high of 25 against Washington State.
  • Forward Paris Kirk leads the team with 6.0 rebounds per game.
