Christensen Named Big West Player Of the Week

IRVINE, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i's Tanner Christensen has been named the Big West Men's Basketball Player of the Week. It's the first weekly honor for a UH player this season and the first for Christensen as a Rainbow Warrior.

The 6-10 center averaged 19.5 points and 5.5 rebounds while shooting 73.7 percent from the floor in a pair of wins over Pacific and Weber State. On Sunday he scored a team-high 25 points on 10-of-11 shooting in a 73-68 overtime victory over Weber State. Christensen sank his first nine shots of the contest, scored 20 points by halftime and hit the game-tying basket with six seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime.

The graduate transfer from Spokane Valley, Wash., also had 14 points and seven rebounds in a 76-66 win over Pacific in the Rainbow Classic title game last Monday night. He was named the Rainbow Classic Most Outstanding Player while leading the Rainbow Warriors to their first Classic title in seven years. Christensen currently leads the team in scoring (17.5 ppg) and field goal percentage (.765).

The Rainbow Warriors, who are off to a 4-0 start for the second straight season, will next host No. 10 North Carolina on Friday, Nov. 22. Tipoff is 7:30 p.m. at the SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.
