IRVINE, Calif. – Hawai'i goalkeeper
Kennedy Justin earned Big West Defensive Player of the Week honors Monday after posting a pair of shutouts in this week's wins.
Justin recorded clean sheets in the Rainbow Wahine's 1-0 wins at CSUN and vs. Cal State Fullerton and has put together three straight shutouts dating back to the Sept. 26 win over Cal State Bakersfield. She is the first Hawai'i goalkeeper since 2019 to post three consecutive shutouts (Alexis Mata).
The redshirt freshman recorded a pair of saves and faced just eight shot attempts in Sunday's win over the Titans while facing nine shots without having to record a save in Thursday's victory at CSUN. Justin has helped organize a defense that has held opponents to fewer than 10 shots in four straight matches and 32 total attempts during that span.
The Long Beach, Calif. native has allowed just one goal in four conference matches and currently sits third in the Big West in goals against average at 1.261. She has helped lead the Rainbow Wahine to a six-match winning streak – tied for the longest in program history and the longest since 2003.
Justin earned a conference weekly award for the first time in her career and is the first UH goalkeeper to earn defensive player of the week honors since Sept. 19, 2022 (Lauren Marquez).
