IRVINE, Calif. – A pair of Hawai'i players took home Big West weekly honors following Sunday's regular season title-clinching win, as
Fabiola Zamora was named offensive player of the week, and
Nalani Damacion claimed freshman of the week recognition.
Zamora took home a conference weekly award for the first time in her career after scoring the game-tying goal and dishing out the assist on the game-winner. She then preserved the win in the final minute, making a save at the UH goal line on a corner kick.
Damacion earned Big West Freshman of the Week honors for a record fifth time this year and the second week in a row after scoring yet another game-winner in Sunday's win. The Rocklin, Calif. native headed in the go-ahead score in the 83
rd minute for her seventh goal of the season – all of them game-winners.
Fabiola Zamora, Big West Offensive Player of the Week
- Scored the game-tying goal off a rebounded shot attempt in the 68th minute of Sunday's win.
- Recorded the game-winning assist on a long free kick service to the front of the net in the 83rd minute.
- Made a save on the goal line in the final minute to preserve the win.
- All three of her goals this year have either been game-tying or game-winning goals.
- First UH player since 2019 (Kayla Ryan) to earn Big West Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Nalani Damacion, Big West Freshman of the Week
- Delivered the game-winning goal on a header in the 83rd minute of Sunday's win.
- Tied for first nationally with seven game-winning goals.
- Most game-winners by any freshman nationally since 2015 (Cece Kizer, Ole Miss).
- Leads the team in goals overall with seven.
- Five of her seven game-winning goals have come in the second half, including four in the final 10 minutes.
- Tied for the most game-winners in a single-season in school history (Natasha Kai – 2003, 2004; Tiana Fujimoto – 2013).
- Already tied for fourth on the UH career game-winning goals list.
