IRVINE, Calif. – For the fourth time this season, Hawai'i midfielder
Nalani Damacion earned Big West Freshman of the Week honors following her game-winning goal in Sunday's win over UC Riverside.
Damacion scored the game-winner in the 86th minute of a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over the Highlanders, finishing off of a
Mia Foster pass to put the Rainbow Wahine in front for good. The goal was her team-leading sixth of the year – all of them game-winners – while marking the third time that she has delivered the go-ahead score in the final 10 minutes of a match.
The Rocklin, Calif. native is tied for second nationally and first among all freshmen with her six game-winners. Damacion also moved into second in single-season school history in game-winning goals and is already tied for seventh in a career at UH. She is also tied for first among Big West freshmen in overall goals and tied for third among all players in the league.
Damacion is the first player ever to claim Big West Freshman of the Week honors four times in a season in the four years that the conference has been giving out the award. She is also the first UH player to win a weekly award of any kind four times in a season since the 'Bows joined the Big West in 2012.
