Women's Tennis Begins Final Homestand With Pair of Big West Matches

HONOLULU--The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team (5-6, 3-1 BW) retuns home after a long, rain-soaked California roadtrip to begin its final homestand of 2023. UH will host five home matches during a 10-day span, beginning with a pair of Big West matches against CSUN (11-2, 3-0 BW) on Thursday, March 23 at 2:30 P.M. HT followed by UC Santa Barbara (2-10, 2-0 BW) on Sunday, March 26 at 2:30 P.M. HT. Both games will be held at the UH Tennis Complex. Both CSUN and UCSB lead the Big West with undefeated conference records.

This Week's Opponents
  • Hawai'i opens this week against league-leader CSUN who comes to Honolulu riding a seven-match win streak. They are a perfect 3-0 conference record. 
  • After winning their opening match vs. UC Davis to start the season, the Gauchos lost their next 10 matches. UCSB snapped its losing streak defeating UC San Diego, 6-1 on March 11. Although their overall record is 2-10, they are atop the BW standings with CSUN with a 2-0 conference mark.
News & Notes
  • The Rainbow Wahine are looking to continue their momentum from their most recent road trip in which they won their last two matches with a sweep over Cal State Fullerton followed by a close 4-3 victory at Long Beach State to improve to 5-6 overall and 3-1 in the Big West.
  • Sophomore southpaw Ana Vilcek rose nine spots this week to be ranked at No. 107 in this latest ITA rankings. Vilcek, who lost in her first match of the season, has since won eight-straight--including two last week with straight set wins over Cal State Fullerton's Natalie Duffy and Long Beach State's Sarah Medik. While playing at No. 1, Vilcek is 6-1 and at No. 2 she is 2-0.
  • Senior Satsuki Takamura has won five of her last six singles matches for a 7-3 overall record this season. Last week, she notched a pair of straight set wins at both CSUF and LBSU playing at No. 3.
  • Sophomore Nikola Homolkova comes into this week with a 4-4 record. Last week on the road at her former school, Long Beach State, Homolkova clinched the 4-3 road win with a three-set victory over Peppi Ramstedt on the No. 2 court.
