Soccer Welcomes Daniel Saucedo as Assistant Coach

HONOLULU – Hawai'i soccer head coach Michele Nagamine announced the addition of seven-year collegiate coaching veteran Daniel Saucedo to the program as an assistant coach on Thursday.

"During our national search, Daniel emerged as our top candidate because of his reputation as a tireless recruiter and someone who can grind though the unique challenges we face here in Hawai'i," said Nagamine. "He has a solid coaching résumé, top notch references and a masters degree in kinesiology. Despite all that, the most impressive thing about him was his quiet intensity. He is a really nice guy but you can tell that his mind is always working and searching for ways to make us better. He has already hit the ground running and Ula and I are both excited to work with him."

Saucedo arrives in Mānoa after spending the last two seasons as an assistant coach at UMBC, where he was also the program's recruiting coordinator. In 2022, he helped the Retrievers to their best record in six years as they scored the most goals and conceded the fewest goals in a season since 2016. UMBC also recorded the most shutouts in a season since 2014, finishing with seven clean sheets in 2022.

Prior to his time at UMBC, Saucedo spent one season as an assistant coach at VMI during the 2020-21 season where he helped the Keydets achieve the highest team GPA in program history. Before coaching at VMI, he was a graduate assistant at North Georgia for two seasons from 2018-19, where he helped the Nighthawks go 26-8-3 during his tenure and make the NCAA Division II Tournament in 2019, finishing the season ranked No. 23 nationally.

Saucedo also was an assistant coach for the Georgia Southwestern men's soccer program from 2016-18, where he led the program to a United Soccer Coaches team academic award twice. He also served as a select/academy coach for the Athens (Ga.) Soccer Association from 2012-16 and holds a United Soccer Coaches Advanced National Diploma and a U.S. Soccer Federation D License.

The native of Monterrey, Mexico, played collegiately at Emmanuel College (Ga.) where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology in 2012. He also earned his Master of Science degree in kinesiology from North Georgia in 2020.
