NEWS & NOTES

  • UH is coming off its fifth consecutive week of splitting its Big West matchups, beginning with a loss and finishing with a win.
  • The 'Bows lost their return game with UC Davis on Thursday 57-47, after beating the Aggies earlier in the season to begin conference play. UH shot a season-low 25% (15-for-60) from the field and 8% (2-for-23) from three-point range in the loss.
  • UH bounced back two days later against Cal Poly, completing the season sweep of the Mustangs with an 80-58 win. The Bows shot 54% (29-for-53) from the floor as five players registered double-digit points for the team's highest-scoring game in two seasons.
  • Sophomore guard Lily Wahinekapu has been a tear lately, as she has scored 10 or more points in seven straight games. During her scoring stretch, Wahinekapu is averaging 13.2 points per game while leading the team on the season with 11 points per game.
  • UH and UCSD have history, and it all leans towards the Tritons as the two teams have faced off three times in the past, with all three taking place in the last two seasons and UH losing all three. The previous two matchups have been decided by two and three points, while the first on Jan. 13th, 2022, was a lopsided 24-point win by the Tritons.

SENIOR CITIZENS CONTRIBUTORS
When senior day comes on March 4th, head coach Laura Beeman and the Rainbow Wahine program will honor both graduates, Kallin Spiller and McKenna Haire. Throughout the season, Spiller has been a big-time contributor as she is second on the team in scoring with 8.4 points per game and first in rebounding with 7.3 boards per contest, plus she is currently on a 33-game streak of starts. But Haire is, in many ways, a new addition to the rotation. The sharp-shooting Princeton grad has started the last two games due to recent injuries and has played 20 minutes or more in five of her 17 appearances this season; in three of those five games, she has scored over 10 points.  Ironically enough, the two transfers from two years ago have never missed an NCAA tournament. Spiller is two-for-two when she's had the chance, once with Seattle, the other with Hawai'i, while Haire is three-for-three, twice with Princeton, once with Hawai'i.

SPREAD THE LOVE
In the 'Bows 80-58 victory against Cal Poly, they showcased the ability to spread the wealth. Five players recorded double-digit points in the game while UH tallied a season-high 22 assists, matching their output from Jan. 7th against Cal State Fullerton. Over the past two seasons, UH is 6-3 when they record 15 or more assists in a game.

LOCATE #23
UH has lost three rotational players due to season-ending injuries, Olivia Davis, Jovi Lefotu, and Jacque David. All three bring something different to the hardwood by providing consistent minutes and a viable scoring threat. With the absence of all three, someone has to step, and recently, it has been sophomore forward Meilani McBee. The Kennewick, Washington native is a threat from deep as she leads the team in made three with 30 and has scored 10 or more points in three of her last four games. McBee has also worked her way into the starting lineup, starting each of the previous seven games while playing 25 minutes or more in four straight. Earlier this season, on Jan. 7th at home against Cal State Fullerton, she dropped a career-high 22 points and hit six threes.
