DALLAS – For the second time this week, the Hawaii men set a freestyle relay record, this time in the 400 free relay to close out action at the SMU Invitational Saturday.
The relay squad of
Dietrich Meyer,
Jordan Meacham,
Mario Surkovic and
Timothy Gallagher swam a 2:52.32 to beat the old record that was set last year by over a second. The Rainbow Warriors also set the 200 free relay record on Thursday with Surkovic, Meacham and Gallagher a part of that record setting performance.
Rainbow Warrior divers claimed the top two spots in the platform competition, with
Mackaby Pennington taking the title with a mark of 330.45 followed by
Juan Gonzalez in second place with a score of 327.50.
Elma Lund finished runner-up in the women's platform competition with a five-dive score of 228.05.
Gallagher got the finals session in the pool started by swimming a PR in the 200 back, coming in second with a 1:43.39, improving upon his already third-best time in UH history. Surkovic and Meacham joined Gallagher in posting new UH top 10 times, with both swimming a 43.63 in the 100 free finals to move into a tie for fourth place in program history.
Mira Selling posted a top 10 time in the women's 100 free during the prelims, swimming a 49.84 to move into 10
th all-time at UH.
The Hawai'i swimming and diving programs will be back in action Nov. 29-Dec. 2 at the U.S. Open. in Greensboro, N.C.
