Rainbow Wahine Open Home Schedule With Bank Of Hawai‘i Classic

HONOLULU — The University of Hawaii women's basketball team opens the home schedule by playing host to the two-day Bank of Hawai'i Classic on Nov. 17 and 19 at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. UH faces San Francisco on Friday, Nov. 17 at 2:30 p.m. and Idaho on Sunday, Nov. 19 at 5 p.m. Big West member Cal State Fullerton will also face San Francisco and Idaho in the tournament.

The Bank of Hawai'i Classic opens a six-game homestand for the Rainbow Wahine (0-2), their longest of the season, and tips off back-to-back tournament weekends. UH will also host Air Force, Idaho State and Washington in the three-day Rainbow Wahine Showdown Nov. 24-26.

BANK OF HAWAI'I CLASSIC NOTES

The Bank of Hawai'i Classic tips off the Rainbow Wahine home schedule for the third straight year and features San Francisco (WCC), Idaho (Big Sky) and Cal State Fullerton (Big West).
• SAN FRANCISCO went 19-13 last season and was voted seventh in the WCC Preseason Poll. … Guard Jasmine Gayles was named to the All-WCC Preseason Team and scored 30 points in the Dons' season-opening loss to UC Santa Barbara. The graduate student leads the team with 22.7 points per game.
• IDAHO opened Carrie Eighmey's first season as head coach with a win over Walla Walla and a loss to Big West member Cal Poly. … Kennedy Johnson leads the Vandals with 12.0 points per game. …Ashlyn Wallace is 5-for-9 from 3-point range through two games.
• CAL STATE FULLERTON is making the first of two trips to Honolulu. The Titans will also visit Manoa on Feb. 1 for their Big West matchup with Hawai'i. … Head coach Jeff Harada is a Hawaii Baptist Academy graduate and previously coached at Hawaii Pacific University. Assistant coach Nick Milan is a Kaimuki High School and UH graduate. … Center Ashlee Lewis leads the team with 12 points and seven rebounds per game.

LAST TIME OUT … The Rainbow Wahine opened the season with losses at then-No. 15 Stanford on Nov. 8 and Santa Clara on Nov. 11 on a Bay Area road trip.
• Stanford controlled the paint in an 87-40 win at Maples Pavilion led by forward Kiki Iriafen's 23 points on 10-for-14 shooting. The Cardinal built a 60-18 rebounding advantage in improving to 12-0 all-time against UH. 
• The 'Bows cut a 14-point first-quarter deficit to four in the second period and closed to within five in the fourth quarter before Santa Clara held on for a 62-51 win at the Leavey Center. 
• UH went 0-2 on a Pac-12/WCC road trip to open the season for the third straight year. 

IMPRESSIVE INTRODUCTION UH forward Brooklyn Rewers put together an impressive opening weekend in a Rainbow Wahine uniform, leading the team in points and rebounds in both games of the Northern California road trip. She enters her first UH homestand averaging a team-high 13.5 and 7.5 rebounds per game.
• The transfer from Michigan State got the start against Stanford and led UH with eight points. She came off the bench against Santa Clara and posted career highs of 19 points and 12 rebounds in her first double-double. She also hit a 3-pointer in both games and led the team with three steals against Santa Clara.

MCBEE FOR 3Guard/forward MeiLani McBee resumed her role as UH's leading 3-point shooter over the season's opening weekend.
• The junior from Kennewick, Wash., went 6 for 9 from 3-point range on the road trip. She hit two of her four attempts against Stanford then went 4-for-5 in a 16-point performance against Santa Clara.
• She led the team with 51 made 3-pointers last season on a team-high 161 attempts. She tied Megan Tinnin's 2010-11 mark for the fifth highest single-season total for made 3-pointers in program history.
• McBee now has 104 3-pointers for her career, and moved past Briana Harris (2014-17) into 10th  on UH's all-time list. Melanie Azama (1991-94) is ninth at 107.
