Softball Signs Six For 2025

HONOLULU—University of Hawai'i softball head coach Bob Coolen announced the signing of six players—including five local products—for the 2025 season. Jaeda Abcede, Sunni Kahanu, Kolbi Kochi, Kiani-Taylor Soller, Kennedi Thompson, Kayara-Leigh Tuiloma are UH's newest Rainbow Wahine.
 
Abcede is a 5-7 middle infielder/centerfielder who helped Campbell High School win the 2023 state championship. She is a right-handed spray hitter who hits for average with speed and a good arm. She hit .432 for the Cobras Softball Hawai'i club team last summer.
 
Both Kahanu and Kochi currently are teammates matriculating from Mililani High School where they are coached by former Rainbow Wahine, Rose Antonio. Kahanu, a 5-6 centerfielder/shortstop is athletic with a high ceiling. On defense she has good range and on offense, she is a spray hitter who hit .405 last season for the Trojans. Kahanu is teammates with Abcede on the Cobras Softball Hawai'i club team.
 
Kochi is a 5-6 power hitting first baseman/third baseman who hit .482 for Mililani last season. The right-hander hit .667 last summer playing for the Firecrackers Brashear club 16U team. Amongst her numerous accolades, Kochi was named to the TC Nationals 16U All-Tournament Team overall as a utility player and she was selected to represent Team Japan in the Triple Crown International Challenge in both 2021 and '22. Last season, Kochi earned a spot on the state DI all-tournament team.
 
Soller is a 5-4 right-handed pitcher/outfielder who is expected to add depth to the Rainbow Wahine pitching staff. The right-hander is from Mililani but is a student at Kamehameha Schools—Kapālama. She is a savvy, downball pitcher who has been clocked throwing 62 mph. Last season, she posted a 14-1 record for the Warriors while going 9-3 with the USA Preps Academy club team in the summer. On offense, she hit .545 for the Warriors as a junior and .392 with a .690 slugging percentage with the Preps Academy club team.
 
Thompson is a 5-6 outfielder out of Santa Clarita, Calif. who has speed to burn, a strong arm and a high softball IQ. A four-year starter at Saugus High School, Thompson hit .387 last year for the Centurions while batted .373 with the I-5 Snyder club team. She is a contact hitter who runs from home-to-first in 2.71 second. In 2023, she earned the team's Hustle Award, all-league honorable mention honors, and academic honors.
 
Tuiloma is a versatile 5-9 outfielder with a strong arm from Wai'anae, O'ahu who attends Kapolei High School. She is a contact hitter who posted a .317 for the Preps Academy club team last summer.
