ON THE PITCH
- The Rainbow Wahine are coming off of a two-match road trip to UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly in which they picked up two points in the conference standings after tying both matches. The 'Bows played UCSB to a 0-0 draw on Sept. 22, before earning a 2-2 result on Sunday against the Mustangs.
- In the draw with the Gauchos, the UH back line led by goalie Lauren Marquez posted its second-straight shutout with Marquez recording five saves. Against Cal Poly, Krista Peterson and Amber Gilbert each came through with an early goal to go up 2-0 before a pair of second-half scores, including one in the final 15 seconds, tied the match up.
- Hawai'i takes a perfect 3-0 record at home into Sunday's match, marking the first time since 1998 that the Rainbow Wahine have won their first three home matches. UH is one of 20 teams nationally and the only one in The Big West with a perfect record at home this year.
- Redshirt freshman Amber Gilbert was named Big West Freshman of the Week on Monday for the second time this year after scoring her third goal of the season at Cal Poly. Gilbert leads all freshmen in the conference in points (8) and goals (3) and is the only player in the league to win the weekly honor multiple times this year.
- UH's starting forward line of Krista Peterson, Amber Gilbert and Kelci Sumida have packed a lot of the offensive punch for the 'Bows. All three have started each of the eight matches and have combined for eight goals, seven assists and 35 shots. One of the three have scored or assisted on eight of UH's nine goals.
- Defense has been a strength for the Rainbow Wahine, as they are currently tied for the conference lead in goals allowed per game, giving up just 1.0 per contest. UH's eight goals given up are the fewest in the Big West this season while the 'Bows have allowed just three goals over the last seven matches. Additionally, goalies Lauren Marquez and Sophie Augustin both have won Big West Defensive Player of the Week this year.
TWO BIG POINTS IN CALI
Hawai'i earned a pair of draws on its first Big West road trip of the year, picking up two points in the league standings following ties at UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly. The 'Bows started off the road trip by picking up their second-straight shutout in a 0-0 draw with the Gauchos, as the back line led by goalie Lauren Marquez turned in yet another strong effort led by Marquez's five saves. In the 2-2 draw at Cal Poly on Sunday, UH got out to a two-goal lead thanks to scores in the first seven minutes by Krista Peterson and Amber Gilbert. The Mustangs would equalize behind a pair of second-half goals, the second of which came on a free kick just outside the box with 16 seconds remaining in the match.
HOT START
The Rainbow Wahine are off to one of the best starts to a season in recent program history. UH's four wins in the first eight matches are its most since 2016 when it started 6-1-1, while the 'Bows are unbeaten through their first three Big West matches for just the second time since joining the league in 2012 Additionally, Hawai'i is 3-0 at home on the year, marking the first time since 1998 that the Rainbow Wahine have won their first three home matches.
RAKING IN THE HONORS
The Rainbow Wahine have taken home several Big West weekly honors over the last three weeks. Amber Gilbert has been named conference freshman of the week twice in the last three weeks, while goalies Sophie Augustin and Lauren Marquez each took home defensive player of the week in consecutive weeks.
- Augustin was named league defensive player of the week after making eight saves at Portland State, and Marquez won the award a week later after a shutout of UC Davis in the conference opener.
- Hawai'i is the first team to have two different goalies win Big West Defensive Player of the Week two weeks in a row since the league began giving out the honor in 2010.
- Gilbert is the only freshman in the league to earn freshman of the week honors multiple times, winning the award this past week and on Sept. 12.
ON THE ATTACK
Hawai'i's front line of
Amber Gilbert,
Krista Peterson and
Kelci Sumida have led the way offensively through six matches. The trio have combined to score eight of the team's nine goals while one of the three has recorded a point in all six matches in which UH has scored.
- Peterson is tied for fourth in the conference with four goals and tied for fifth in with 10 points. She also leads the team in both categories.
- Gilbert leads Big West freshmen in both points (8) and goals (3).

LOCKING IT DOWN
Defense has been one of the strong points for Hawai'i through the first half of the season. The Rainbow Wahine are tied for the conference lead allowing just 1.0 goals per game, while their eight goals allowed on the season are the fewest in The Big West. The 'Bows have gotten contributions from a number of different individuals both on the back line and in goal to keep opposing offenses in check.
TURNING UP THE PRESSURE
The Rainbow Wahine have shown improvement from a season ago on the offensive end through the first eight matches. Hawai'i has scored nine goals through eight matches while attempting 71 shots, including 38 on goal. A year ago through eight matches, UH scored just six goals while attempting 62 shots with 28 on goal.
