MARICOPA, Ariz. – The University of Hawai'i women's golf team concluded the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic in seventh place after Tuesday's final round at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club while freshman
Momo Sugiyama posted yet another Top 10 finish.
The Rainbow Wahine shot a final round 293 for an 891 total, 11 strokes behind team champion Santa Clara, who held on to win the title by three strokes over Long Beach State. Meanwhile, Sugiyama carded a final round 1-over 73 for a 3-over 219 total and a tie for sixth place.
On the same day she earned Big West Conference Golfer of the Month honors for the second time during her rookie campaign, the Gold Coast, Australia native posted her seventh Top 10 finish of the season. Sugiyama finished six strokes behind medalist Claire Choi of Santa Clara who finished the tournament at 3-under 213.
Freshman
Mayumi Umezu carded a final round 75 and finished in a tie for 20
th place at 6-over 222. The Waimea, Hawai'i native posted her fifth Top 20 finish of the season.
Freshman
Hyeonji Kang tied for 38
th at 226 while junior
Hana Mirnik and
Ting-Yu Liu each tied for 41
st at 227. Mirnik posted UH's low round of the tournament at 2-under 70 on Tuesday while Liu was competing as an individual. Freshman
Monica Johnson shot her best score of the tournament with a final round 75 to finish in a tie for 65
th at 232.
The Rainbow Wahine will stay on the mainland and head to San Luis Obispo, Calif., site of the 2022 Big West Conference Championship. The tournament runs April 10-12 at the San Luis Obispo Country Club.
