HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team took another step toward retooling on Thursday as head coach
Laura Beeman and staff announced Meg Jefferson, a 6'3 transfer forward from the University of Virginia, as the newest addition to the 2022 signing class.
"We're excited to have Meg join our 'Ohana," said Beeman. "She will bring immediate experience to our post play having played significant minutes for UV. Meg will be a great fit in our locker room with her team first attitude and commitment to winning. We are also excited to continue our recruiting efforts in Australia by bringing another Aussie to the program.
Jefferson, a native of Sydney, Australia, will be a graduate student at UH with two years of eligibility left. During the 2021-22 season, Jefferson played in her third season within the Cavaliers' program and saw action in 12 games before entering the transfer portal. She played in three games a year earlier before being lost due to injury. Before her injury, Jefferson led the team in scoring at 12.7 points per game while sitting atop the ACC in shooting percentage at 73 percent, ranking her sixth in the country.
On top of her contributions to the hardwood, Jefferson brings the same focus to the classroom. In 2019 and 2020, she was named to the ACC Athletic Honor Roll.
Before joining the college ranks, Jefferson was making a name for herself in Australia. She was awarded the 2018 Sportswoman of the Year at Saint Columba's Catholic College, helping her alma mater claim state titles in 2015 and 2017. Adding to her resume, she played on both the New South Wales U-19 and U-20 Australian National Teams.
