HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team and head coach
Laura Beeman announced the newest signee to the 2022-2023 roster on Monday in sophomore guard Lily Lefotu Wahinekapu.
Wahinekapu is well known in the state of Hawai'i as she hails from Honolulu, O'ahu and is a graduate of 'Iolani high school where she won state titles and ILH championships in 2019 and 2020. She was named the state of Hawai'i Player of the Year in 2020 and the Hawai'i Gatorade Player of the Year in 2021.
"We are excited to welcome Lily back home and into our 'ohana," said Beeman. "Her body of work both on and off the court speaks for itself. She is a tremendous player and as a person she will add more aloha to our locker room."
During the 2021-22 season Wahinekapu played at Cal State Fullerton, winning the Big West Conference Freshman of the Year award averaging 14 points a game, while starting in all 29 games for the Titans. The 5'7 scoring threat registered six games of 20 points or more and 24 games of double-digit scoring. In two games against the Rainbow Wahine she tallied a nine-point game and a 12-point game.
Wahinekapu joins a talented class of 2022 signees, now totaling four for the 'Bows. In November, Beeman along with her coaching staff announced signees Imani Perez, Avery Watkins, and Jovi Lefotu, the younger sister of Lily.
