FLAGSTAFF, ARIZ.—The University of Hawai'i diving team returned to action for the first time since the MPSF Championship with the first day of the NCAA Zone E Championship at North Arizona University on Monday.
Senior
Max Burman and sophomore
Mason Williams worked their way into the men's three-meter championship finals. Burman finished the highest of the day amongst all Hawai'i divers placing eighth overall at 686.50. His best dive of the day came on his last with a forward 2 ½ somersault two twist pike, scoring first overall in his sixth dive with a 76.50.
Williams finished at No. 12, doing the same as Burman, recording his best dive in his last attempt. Williams tallied a 61.60 off a back 1 ½ somersault 2 ½ twist free, placing eighth in the sixth round dive.
Junior
Daphne Wils was the only women's diver to qualify for the finals and placed 12th overall with a score of 544.30. Wils, a well-renounced diver for the 'Bows, had a tough go as she placed 17th in her third dive and 14th in her fourth dive, knocking her out of contention for an NCAA qualifying bid. Her highest scoring dive was on her fifth attempt with a reverse 2 ½ somersault tuck with a 58.50.
UH will be back in action on Tuesday, with the women's three-meter and men's platform set to go on the second day of the championships.
