FIRST PITCH
  • The Rainbow Warriors lost their second conference series of the year 2-1 to UC Irvine.
  • Although the 'Bows were outscored 16-10, the 'Bows were even in the hit column with 19.
  • Junior Catcher Dallas Duarte extended his hitting streak to five this past weekend, where he is hitting .350 including one double and three RBIs over that span. He is now second on the team batting .253.
  • Duarte will serve a one-game suspension on Friday for his ejection in the 9th inning of Sundays game.
  • Andy Archer picked up the first win for a true starter this season on Saturday where he would throw 5.1 innings with 3 strikeouts and 3 earned runs.
  • Junior Pitcher Buddie Pindel continued to perform with his fourth appearance of scoreless work, where he had 3.2 innings of relief with one hit and five strikeouts.
  • The UH bullpen is far from clear as it has seen 8 different guys start games and 11 guys able to give innings out of the pen.
  • Sophomore Kyson Donahue joined the sluggers with his first homerun and only run of Sundays game.
  • UH pinch hitters continue to struggle as they are now 0-19 on the season, while opponents are 4-30.

LEAN ON ME
The bullpen has been a stable part of the 'Bows approach. Going into the UC Irvine series, the pen had an ERA of 5.60. After the three-game series, it's now 5.38. Despite the series loss, three pitchers have stood out as "stoppers" in the early part of the season. Dalton Renne has filed 18.2 innings of action for a 2.89 ERA while sporting a 0.96 WHIP. Cory Ronan continues to be the only pitcher with an ERA under 1.00 with a 0.77 ERA in 11.2 innings. Buddie Pindel resumed his role out of the bullpen and delivered 3.2 scoreless innings in the weekend's only win.

SLIM SHADY? NAH, HAWAI'I ELECTRIC COMPANY
You may notice many of the everyday players have dyed their hair blonde; well, there's a reason behind it. When someone reaches bases with an extra-base hit or records a significant strikeout, don't be surprised if you see the hat or helmet come off—followed by a rubbing of the head towards the dugout, signaling the creation of electricity. The team calls themselves the "Honolulu Electric Company," as they're a higher energy crew.

LOCAL BOY ON FIRE
Sophomore Aaron Ujimori could not find his swing through the first twelve games of the season sporting a .171 batting average. Since the Vanderbilt series, he found his stride batting a team-best .324 with two doubles, a triple, and five RBIs. He quickly turned himself into a bat that could be trusted with his six multi-hit games

VEGAS IS PAYING OUT
Vegas native Buddie Pindel came to Hawai'i in the offseason to fill the gaps in the bullpen. He left Southern Nevada after two years compiling a 2.68 ERA over 84 innings with 95 strikeouts. Through eight appearances for UH, he holds a 4.05 ERA, which includes four appearances with no runs given up. He has had multiple appearances with one for fewer hits. He's picked up two wins that included five scoreless innings against conference opponent Long Beach State and his season-high five strikeouts in his last appearance against conference opponent UC Irvine.

A COUPLE OF LONG AND HISTORIC NIGHTS
Head coach Rich Hill is very familiar with playing long games; in his first game as the head coach of Hawai'i on February 18th against Washington State, the 'Bows played a 9-inning game in four hours and 27 minutes. Not to be outdone, on February 28th, Hill and the 'Bows played a 15-inning, six-hour, and 14 minute game against San Diego State. In two of the first eight games at UH, Hill coached the longest 9-inning game and the longest game time-wise in program history. He has accumulated five four-hour long games so far.

TWO DONAHUES, ONE TEAM
When looking at the 2022 roster, your mind will wander about Kyson and Jordan Donahue. The infield duo are cousins, and both have multiple years of eligibility remaining. Their grandpas were brothers, and their dads are first cousins. Even though they both went to different high schools, Kyson went to Punahou, and Jordan went to Damien. They're close and decided to transfer to Hawai'i to play together. Jordan redshirted at Oregon State, while Kyson played two years at Arizona, seeing action in 20 games. Jordan has played in 16 games this season and started in 15, with 12 at shortstop and three at second base. While Kyson is battling back from injury, playing in eleven games and starting ten at shortstop. The duo have played SS and 2B together in three games this season so far. Jordan is currently battling injury, while Kyson hit his first homer of the season in the previous series.
