Women's Tennis Blanks UC Riverside, 7-0 For Fifth-Straight Shut-Out

Box Score HONOLULU—The 73rd-ranked University of Hawai'i women's tennis team (8-3, 5-0 Big West) recorded its fifth-straight sweep and extended its win streak to seven with a 7-0 win over UC Riverside (3-10, 0-5 BWC). The Rainbow Wahine recorded one of its most dominant matches ever—winning every singles match in straight-sets and not allowing any of the Highlanders to score more than two in any set in singles and doubles.
 
The 'Bows quickly captured the doubles point with UH's No. 2 team of Ana Vilcek and Tal Talya Zandberg blanking UCR's Natalie Shamma and Niki Shahbazi, 6-0. UH's No. 1 duo of Lea Romain and Satsuki Takamura followed by nearly shutting out UCD's Mahli Silpachai, 6-1. Hawai'i No. 3 pair of Gitte Heynemans and Nidhi Surapaneni  defeated Serina Saltzen and Sydney Tran.
 
In singles, Takamura finished first, throwing a shut-out to defeat Silpachai, 6-0, 6-0. UH's Surapaneni, playing at No. 6 followed w/UH's second shut-out over UCD's Tran, 6-0, 6-0. Hawai'i's No. 5, Gitte Heynemans then clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Shahbazi. No. 1 Romain recorded UH's third shut-out as she defeating Silpachai, 6-0, 6-0. UH's No. 3 player, Zandberg finished the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Sofia Lazzaroni.
 
The Rainbow Wahine will now head to California for a tough, four match road trip, beginning at #19 Stanford on Wednesday, March 30. The 'Bows will then play back-to-back Big West matches at UC Santa Barbara on Friday, April 1 and Cal Poly on Sunday, April 3. The roadtrip will conclude in Southern California as they take on 17th-ranked USC on Tuesday, April 5, 2022.
