SEAL BEACH, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i women's golf team currently sits in second place after the first two rounds of The Gold Rush Monday at the Old Ranch Country Club.
The Rainbow Wahine (602) trails only 14
th-ranked USC (577) and holds a two-stroke lead over 15
th-ranked UCLA (604). Rounding out the Top 5 is Fresno State (610) and Pepperdine (616).
The highlight of the day occurred in Round 1 when freshman
Monica Johnson carded a hole-in-one on the No. 5 hole, her third to last in the round. The Sydney, Australia native used a nine iron on her 120-yard shot for her second career hole-in-one. She went on to shoot 1-over 73 but stumbled with a second round 86 and is tied for 41
st at 159.
Momo Sugiyama leads the Rainbow Wahine at 4-over 148 with rounds of 75 and 73 and sits in tie for sixth place.
Mayumi Umezu is three strokes behind Sugiyama at 7-over 151 after round of 74 and 77 and is tied for 12
th.

Hyeonji Kang (153, t-25
th) and
Hana Mirnik (154, t-27
th).
USC's Amari Avery, the nation's second-ranked golfer, leads the field at 1-under 143. She is the only golfer under par after the first two rounds.
Round 3 is scheduled to begin with a 7:00 a.m. PT shotgun start.
