Hawai‘i Wraps Up Second Day at the MPSF Championships

MONTEREY PARK, CALIF.- The University of Hawai'i swim and dive team started their second day at the MPSF Championships with a packed schedule, as the women's team currently sits in second place and the men's team at third place overall.

The Rainbow Wahine continued their strong lead into the second day, with graduate student Anna Kotonen finishing first in the 50 free with a time of 22.68, just a few tenths of a second off her season-best of 22.47.

The 200 free relay team that consisted of Kotonen, senior Kailee Nabeta, junior Gabby Williams, and freshman Helena Djunic notched a second-place win with a time of 1:31.78. UC San Diego took the event at 1:30.41.

Junior Daphne Wils and Freshman Nea Immonen added more points to the overall team score, with Wils slotted at second place and Immonen at third in the three-meter dive. After placing first in the prelims, Wils scored a 350.10 in the finals, marking the first time she hasn't won the MPSF three-meter championship in her career.

For the Rainbow Warriors, Junior Tim Masten recorded a personal best in the 50 free with a time of 19.91, placing second in the A-finals after Connor Stirling of BYU.

Senior Max Burman took second in the men's one-meter event, with a final score of 355.85. Sophomore Mason Williams also walked away with a third-place finish, at 338.40, helping the 'Bows stay close in the overall rankings.

The 'Bows will be back at the East Los Angeles Community College Aquatic Center on Friday with a five-event lineup, with prelims starting at 10:00 a.m PT and finals beginning at 6:00 p.m PT.
