Softball Releases 2023 Sechedule

HONOLULU—University of Hawai'i softball head coach Bob Coolen released the 2023 schedule which features 53 total games—26 non-conference and 27 Big West contests. Hawai'i will play a total of 14 non-conference teams representing nine conferences across the nation. The 'Bows will host 36 home games at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium with 13 away and four neutral site games.

"We have filled our schedule with 53 games of regionalized opponents. It's the first year since 2019 that we will once again be hosting four pre-season tournaments while returning to compete in UNLV's Desert Classic on the Ninth Island.

Hawai'i opens the season hosting the Paradise Classic from February 10-12 with St. Mary's (CA), and Utah Tech coming to Honolulu for the three-day tourney.

The 'Bows will then travel to Las Vegas, Nev. where they will take on Pittsburgh, UNLV, CSU Bakersfield (in a non-conference contest), and Montana in UNLV's Desert Classic. All games will be played at Eller Media Stadium.

The Rainbow Wahine will then return home to begin a 23-day, 18-game homestand which includes three consecutive tournaments. First up is the Hawai'i Invitational featuring SeattleU, Marist and St. Bonaventure from Feb. 24-26.

The six-team, five-day Spring Fling Tournament follows from March 2-6. Pacific, St. Bonaventure, Utah, Niagara, and Santa Clara will be featured. Hawai'i will conclude their pre-season tournament schedule with the Rainbow Wahine Classic (March 9-12) with Fordham, Niagara and Iowa State competing.

After a single, non-tournament game  on March 14 vs. Niagara, Hawai'i will begin their Big West season. This year, UH will host five home conference series—UC Santa Barbara (March 17-18), UC San Diego (March 31-April 1), UC Riverside (April 14-15), Long Beach State (April 28-29) and UC Davis (May 11-12). Hawai'i's away BW series includes playing at CSUN (March 24-25), at Cal Poly (April 7-8), at CSU Bakersfield (April 21-22), and at Cal State Fullerton (May 5-6).

The Rainbow Wahine return 15 letterwinners—including five starters and three of four pitchers who saw action in 2022. Last season, UH had its best finish since 2013, finishing third The Big West with a 17-10 conference record and a 23-19 overall record. The 2023 Rainbow Wahine welcome 11 freshman and three transfers into the fold. All-Big West players Briana Lopez, Maya Nakamura, and Ka'ena Keliinoi all return to lead the 'Bows into the 2023 season.
