LOS ANGELES – The Hawai'i swimming & diving programs wrapped up their opening weekend of competition Saturday at the USC Invitational, with a trio of Rainbow Wahine swimmers turning in top 10 times in program history.
Laticia Transom, a senior transfer, placed second in the 200 Free with a time of 1:46.51 to give her the fourth-fastest time in school history in the event. The New Zealand native later put up a mark of 49.02 in the 100 Free, good for the fifth-fastest time in program history.
Gabrielle Scudamore also turned in a strong swim in the 100 Free, clocking a personal best time of 50.36.
Two Rainbow Wahine delivered top 10 times in the 200 Breaststroke, as
Mandolin Nguyen turned in a time of 2:14.86 to put her in sixth all-time while 2022 MPSF Freshman of the Year
Kathryn Ivanov stopped the clock in 2:16.26 to give her the 10th-fastest time in the event at UH.
The Rainbow Wahine also had strong showings in the freestyle relays, starting off the day with a time of 1:30.70 in the 200 Free Relay. The relay team of
Holly Nelson, Transom, Scudamore and
Helena Djunic put up a time that was just 0.31 off the school record in the event to finish third. In the 400 Free Relay, Nelson, Scudamore,
Anna Friedrich and Djunic came in fourth in the final event of the day with a time of 3:22.28.
On the men's side of the action,
Milan Bukovics and
Owen Ngan both turned in good efforts in the 400 IM, with Bukovics coming in seventh with a mark of 3:56.67 and Ngan eighth in 3:58.11. Ngan then finished fourth in the 1650 Free in a time of 15:49.26 while Bukovics fell just short of a personal best in the 200 Fly with a mark of 1:49.71 to finish seventh.
Up next, the Rainbow Warriors and Rainbow Wahine will host an intrasquad meet on Nov. 5 at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex before returning to the mainland for the SMU Invitational Nov. 17-19.
