HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i women's tennis program has added Nidhi Surapaneni for the 2021-22 season as a graduate transfer.
Surapaneni, a native of Hyderabad, India, spent four seasons at the University of North Texas and will have one season of eligibility remaining. During her time with the Mean Green, she compiled a career singles dual match record of 33-42 and a doubles dual match record of 30-36.

Jun Hernandez said. "She'll be bringing a successful four years of college tennis experience with her. She's had many experiences playing singles and doubles for UNT and she was ranked as high as #75 in the nation in doubles this past season. Her maturity on and off the court will help our young team. She's a bright young woman and I'm looking forward to working with her."
In 2020-21, Surapaneni went 12-12 in singles dual matches playing mostly at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions and finished 11-12 in doubles. She played the first 15 matches of the year at No. 1 doubles and she and her partner were ranked as high as No. 75 nationally. In the fall, Surapaneni reached the round of 32 in the ITA Texas Regional singles main draw.
In 2019-20, she compiled an 8-5 singles dual match record, including a perfect 5-0 mark against Conference USA opponents. She also posted a team-best nine dual match doubles victories. In all, she went 19-12 in singles and 16-8 in doubles during the year.
As a sophomore, Surapaneni recorded 10 singles dual match victories and helped the Mean Green clinch their C-USA Tournament quarterfinal match over FIU. Earlier that season, she reached the semifinal round of the ITA Texas Regional Consolation Bracket. As a freshman, she recorded a 5-1 record in singles, playing primarily at the No. 5 position.
Surapaneni is a two-time ITA All-Academic Scholar-Athlete and has earned two C-USA Academic Medals for sporting a 3.75+ grade point average. She received her undergraduate degree in finance.
The native of India, Surapaneni competed in the first round of the Australian Open Juniors doubles and the qualifying final round in singles. She had a career-best ITF World Junior ranking of 167. At 16 years old, Surapaneni won the Indian Women's National Tournament. A Singapore transplant, she was the No. 2 ranked player in the country 16 years old or younger
