HONOLULU-- The University of Hawai'i soccer team and head coach Michele Nagamine announced the addition of Kaula Rowe to the coaching staff on Wednesday.
 
Rowe, a native of Kapalama, O'ahu, and a 2000 graduate of Kamehameha School, returns home after leaving in 2012 following her stint as the head coach of Chaminade University from 2009-2012. She recently spent time in Wasilla, Alaska as the executive director, associate technical director of the Wasilla Youth Soccer Association. Rowe also served as the head coach of girls soccer at Bartlett High School in Anchorage, Alaska. Over her tenure, she was a three-time Anchorage School District Coach of the Year. She held both positions from 2015 till her arrival in Manoa.
 
Before her time in Alaska, Rowe spent four years in Texas with the San Antonio United Soccer Club and was named the 2014 Club Coach of the Year.
 
On top of her resume as a coach, Rowe was a decorated player at the University of Nevada and still stands as the program's all-time leading scorer with 18 goals from 2000-2004.

To say that I'm thrilled to welcome Coach Rowe home is an understatement. We have traditionally filled this position with coaches at the beginning of their careers, offering an opportunity to learn and grow with hands-on experience in a beautiful place. Kaula is a different hire for us. She is an experienced coach who has her US Soccer B License and was a Division II head coach for four years. "Ula" is also a local girl who grew up playing soccer in Hawai'i and has intimate knowledge of our Hawaiian culture and the unique challenges we face living on an island. Her club coaching background has allowed her to build an impressive network of contacts across the county, and she is well-respected as a hard-working "players' coach." She has followed our program very closely for the past ten years and knows us well. It's very special for me to welcome her home as a part of our staff.
