IRVINE, Calif.—University of Hawai'i softball pitcher
Jetta Nannen has been named the Big West Freshman Player of the Week. It marks the second straight time a Rainbow Wahine player has earned the honor, coming on the heels of
Maya Nakamura's award last week.
Nannen figured prominently in UH's series win over UC Riverside. The native of Logmont, Colo., worked from the circle in all three games, picking up a pair of wins. Nannen was even solid in her lone loss during the series-opener when she surrendered just one earned run and struck out seven in a complete-game performance.
In Saturday's doubleheader sweep, she was credited with a win in relief after UH's 8-7 walk-off victory over the Highlanders in nine-innings. In the series finale, an 8-1 Rainbow Wahine victory, Nannen allowed just one run and struck out two in her second complete-game performance of the weekend. She also made contributions at the plate for the 'Bows with a double and three runs scored in the series.
Nannen currently holds a 7-3 record with a 2.13 ERA and 23 strikouts in conference play. She and the 'Bows are idle this week before returning to action at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium for a four-game series against Long Beach State beginning on Friday April 30..
