Nakamura Named Big West Conference Freshman of the Week

HONOLULU—For the first time during the 2021 season, the Big West Conference has awarded the University of Hawai'i softball team with a weekly honor by naming Maya Nakamura as the Freshman Player of the Week.

Against Cal Poly, Nakamura swatted a .476 average collecting seven hits over four games, including two multi-hit games and a three-hit game. She belted a home run in the four-game series while driving in four runs and scored seven runs, mainly due to timely hitting and her .500 on-base percentage.

Nakamura currently leads the Rainbow Wahine in batting average (.360), slugging percentage (.580), and total hits (18). In conference games this season, the Honolulu, O'ahu native has hit an eye-popping .417 at the plate while accumulating a .500 on-base percentage.

The 'Bows and Nakamura's hot bat will be in action this week with a three-game series at home with UC Riverside, beginning on Friday.
