KAANAPALI, Maui – The University of Hawai'i women's golf team placed second at the Ānuenue Spring Break Classic after Wednesday's final round at the Royal Kā'anapali Golf Course.
Senior
Zoey Akagi-Bustin was the team's top finisher, tying for fifth overall while three others placed in the Top 10. Akagi-Bustin, who was attempting to become UH's second medalist in tournament's history, started her round two shots off the lead but a final round 80 put her nine strokes behind winner Madison Wood of UC Davis. The Wahiawā, O'ahu native finished 7-over 223 for the tournament.
UCD captured its second Ānuenue Classic team title – and first since 2015 – with a 878 total. UH finished 20 strokes behind the Aggies at 898 following a final round 302. Portland State was third at 912 followed by Hawai'i Hilo (1037) and Hawai'i Pacific (1055).
Junior
Hana Mirnik and freshman
Monica Johnson each carded 74 on Wednesday to finish in a tie for seventh place at 8-over 224. For both, it marked their second Top 10 finish of the season. Freshman Ali Schumk placed ninth at 12-over 228 following a final round 75 for her second Top 10 in as many tournaments.
Also competing for the Rainbow Wahine were senior
Sahara Washington (78; 12
th), who was entered as an individual, and sophomore
Kralyn Salazar (79; 17
th).
Wood shot a 1-over 73 to hold off teammate Jackie Lucena, who finished one shot back. The duo was the only golfers among the field of 27 to shoot under par for the tournament.
The Rainbow Wahine will next compete in the Big West Conference Championship April 19-21 in Yorba Linda, Calif.
