KAANAPALI, Maui – The University of Hawai'i women's golf team sits in a tie for second place with four golfers in the Top 10 after the first round of the Ānuenue Spring Break Classic Monday at the Royal Kā'anapali Golf Course.
 
As a team, the Rainbow Wahine shot 305 and is tied with Portland State. UC Davis leads the tournament at 294. UH Hilo is fourth at 343 followed by Hawai'i Pacific at 355.
 
UH senior Zoey Akagi-Bustin is in fourth place individually, three strokes off the lead after a first round 2-over 74. UC Davis' Madison Woods is the first round leader and the only golfer among the field of 27 to shoot under par at 1-under 71.
 
One stroke behind Akagi-Bustin is freshman Monica Johnson who shot 3-over 75 and is tied for fifth. Senior Sahara Washington – competing as an individual – is tied for seventh at 76 while junior Hāna Mirnik is 10^th at 77.
 
Also competing are freshman Ali Schmunk (79, 13^th) and sophomore Kralyn Salazar (87, 22^nd).
 
The tournament continues on Tuesday with the second round.
