SAN LUIS OBISPO, CALIF.—The University of Hawai'i men's swimming and diving team remained within striking distance of overall leader BYU heading into the final day but ultimately fell short, placing second overall in the MPSF Championships on Saturday.

The Rainbow Warriors tallied 750.50 points, as champion BYU racked up 885.50 to end the two-year reign as champions by the 'Bows. The UH men's and women's teams each won championships the last two years, but the men could not repeat as the women won their fifth consecutive title earlier in the day.

Sophomore
Timothy Gallagher came out of the gate hot, winning the second event of the afternoon, notching a first-place position in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:43.84. Freshman
Sean Hogan added to the event, finishing behind Gallagher for second place at 1:44.94.

Senior Adam Franz picked up another top-three finish, placing second in the 100 free, while sophomore
Justin Lisoway added to the effort coming in third of the 200 breast.

Franz, Masten, and Gallagher teamed up with senior Micah Masei in the final race of the day, the 400 free relay, placing second with a time of 2:57.79.

Up next for UH will be the NCAA Zone E meet for the diving squad to and waiting to see how the field for the NCAA Championships shape up in the coming days.
