Box Score IRVINE, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team posted their first win of the season by sweeping UC Irvine, 7-0, Friday afternoon at Anteater Tennis Stadium.
The Rainbow Wahine (1-1) started off strong in doubles with
Satsuki Takamura and
Nikola Dolakova finishing first with a win Arianna Tilbury and Jenna Schlatter, 6-2. UH's No. 3 doubles match of
Rebecca Ehn and
Bojana Markovic came up short to Dasee Carter and Emily Fowler, 6-3, evening the doubles score. The clincher came when the No. 1 duo of
Petra Melounova and Alexis Merril overcame Jessica Tsukiji and Alyssia Fossorier, 6-4, to secure the doubles point for the 'Bows.
In singles, the Wahine cruised through winning all six matches against the Anteaters. Takamura finished first, knocking off Schlatter in straight sets on the No. 3 court, 6-2, 6-0. Dolakova evaded Halla Alajeely with a 6-3, 6-3 win on the No. 2 court and Melounova sealed the dual match victory with a comeback win on the No. 1 court 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 over Tsukiji.
Pits secured another point for Hawai'i against Tilbury, 6-4, 6-3. Ehn persevered and eluded Dana Mackensen with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) win. The final came with Kim closing out the match in three sets against Fossorier, 7-5, 4-6, 6-0.
The Rainbow Wahine will next play San Diego, Monday, Feb. 22 at the Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif.
