Immonen Records First-Career First Place Finish at SMU Invite

DALLAS, TEXAS.—The University of Hawai'i swim and dive team took care of business on the second day of the SMU Invite held at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium.

The Rainbow Warriors remain in third place with a combined score of 422, while the Rainbow Wahine jumped over Fresno State from fourth to third with a score of 459. The men's team sits behind No. 2 Drury University by 76 points, while the women's team trails by just six points to Drury as well, going into the final day on Saturday.

Swimming

Following a day where UH didn't record an individual win in an A-Final on Thursday, the 'Bows recorded multiple on Saturday, including a relay win on the men's side.

The relay team of seniors John Clark and Ian Venter with junior Timothy Gallagher and freshman Jordan Meacham took the title in the 800 free relay with a final time of 6:31.56, narrowly beating out the Drury squad by a full second.

The Rainbow Warriors picked up a win in the 100 breast as junior Justin Lisoway touched the wall at 52.89, a second better than his prelim time from earlier in the day.

UH recorded two top finishes on the women's side, the first coming from junior Anna Friedrich in the 200 free event. The Hanover, Germany native, touched the wall at 1:48.47, barely beating out Indra Vandenbussche from SMU. Joining Friedrich with a first-place finish was graduate student Anna Kotonen in the 100 breast at 1:01.58 in the very next event, finishing just ahead of another competitor from SMU for the win.

Diving

It was a big day for freshman Nea Immonen as she captured her first career first-place finish for the Rainbow Wahine. Immonen recorded a final score of 336.45 in the three-meter event, as she scored first place in three of her six dives. She saved the best for last though with her highest score of the day with the reverse 2 ½ somersault pike with a tally of 64.50 to secure the victory.

For the men, sophomore Mason Williams picked up his second, third-place finish in as many days as he finished the one-meter event with a score of 340.15. His highest scored dive of the afternoon came on his final dive with an inward 2 ½ somersault tuck, with a 62.00.

The 'Bows will compete Saturday in the platform dive, marking the first time this season UH has performed in the event.
