SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team swept both their singles and doubles consolation matches on day three of the ITA Southwest Regional Championships in San Diego, Calif.
 
The Rainbow Wahine came out strong going into the Consolation Singles Round of 32. The 'Bows won all six singles matches in straight sets. UH's Lea Romain won her match against San Diego State's Augstina Rimoldi Goody by a break in two straight sets, 7-5, 7-5. Hawai'i's Gitte Heynemans defeated Cal State Fullerton's Indya Nespors, 6-4, 6-1. UH's Madison Kim edged out Arizona State's Natasha Hill in a second set tiebreaker for the sweep, 6-2, 7-6 (5). The last three Rainbow Wahine cruised to their straight set wins--Alexis Merrill defeated Long Beach State's Zara Lennon, 6-2, 6-3; Nidhi Surapaneni nearly blanked UC Irvine's Mia Toah, 6-0, 6-1; and Tal Talya Zandberg knocked off UCI's Dana Mackensen, 6-0, 6-1

In doubles, UH's duo of Surapaneni and Merrill edged out Fullerton's Duffy and Tobrand in a tie-breaker, 7-6 (5), while partners Zandberg and Kim held off CSUN's Dorian and Zhyterina by a break, 7-5. UH's Roman and Heynemans doubled up on Arizona's Meraz and Igulpas, 6-3.
