HONOLULU - The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team will make the journey to Tulsa, Okla. to participate in the 2021 ITA Men's All-American Championships, which begins on Saturday, Oct. 2nd at the University of Tulsa. Matches will be held at three different sites--Univ. of Tulsa, LaFortune Park, and Oklahoma State (Stillwater, Okla.).
Hawai'i will be taking seven players to Tulsa, including returnees Andre Ilagan, Axel Labrunie, Blaz Seric, and Simao Telo Alves. Ilagan and Labrunie previously played in both the Battle of the Bay Classic in San Francisco and the Rancher Invitational in Westlake, Calif. They are the only two to compete in both pre-season tournaments.
All four returning Rainbow Warriors participated in last week's Rancher Invitational, where Seric/Ilagan and Alves/Labrunie swept the UNLV Rebels in doubles and Labrunie notched a singles win against Loyola Marymount on day one of the tournament. On day two, Ilagan came out as the lone singles winner against Nebraska while the 'Bows split their doubles matches against LMU with Alves/Labrunie coming out on top.
The ITA All-American Championships will be the UH debut of three transfer players - freshman Kilian Maitre of Brive-la-Gaillarde, France, and Karl Collins of Richmond, Calif., and sophomore Guillaume Tattevin of Paris, France. Maitre played one season at HPU while Collins spent one season with Fresno State. Guillaume spent two seasons at Lander, accumulated a 4-1 singles record at the No. 1 spot while playing for the Bearcats.
The Rainbow Warriors will first compete in the Pre - Qualifying Singles Round held from Oct. 2nd to 3rd. Ilagan will then play in the Qualifying Singles Round from Oct. 4th to 5th.
