Turner, Muasau Named Phil Steele Honorable Mention All-Americans

University of Hawai'i all-purpose back Calvin Turner and linebacker Darius Muasau were selected as Phil Steele All-America honorable mention.

The pair were also named to Phil Steele's all-Mountain West teams – Muasau as a first-team linebacker and Turner as a third-team receiver and fourth-team kick returner. Also honored were safety Khoury Bethley (2nd team), cornerback Cortez Davis (3rd team), quarterback Chevan Cordeiro (4th team), center Taaga Tuulima (4th team), and linebacker Quentin Frazier (4th team).

Turner, a senior from Savannah, Ga., led the Rainbow Warriors in all-purpose yards (1,201), receiving yards (546), and touchdowns (11). He capped his first season as the New Mexico Bowl Offensive MVP after scoring twice – a 75-yard reception and 92-yard kick return – in helping UH to a 28-14 victory over Houston.

Muasau was the New Mexico Bowl's Defensive MVP after recording nine tackles, a sack and recorded his first career interception. The 'Ewa Beach, O'ahu native finished with 104 total tackles and ranked in the Top 5 nationally in both tackles per game (11.8) and solo tackles per game (7.6).

Bethley, Davis, and Frazier were key components of UH's new War Dog Defense, which led the Mountain West with 17 turnovers forced (12-interceptions and 5 fumbles). Bethley was the team's second-leading tackler (70) along with nine tackles for loss, three sacks and a team-leading six pass breakups. Davis was the team's shutdown corner and finished with 30 tackles, including four for loss, and two forced fumbles. In his first season in Mānoa, Frazier tallied 48 tackles, including seven for loss, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries.

Cordeiro threw for 2,083 yards in his first season as a full-time starter. He completed 62.3 percent of his attempts with 14 touchdowns and became the first UH quarterback to lead the team in rushing since Michael Carter in 1991 with 483 yards and seven scores. Tuulima finished his third straight season as the team's starting center.

The Rainbow Warriors completed the shortened 2020 campaign with a 5-4 mark and made their third consecutive bowl appearance.
