UH Swimming and Diving Depart to UNLV for First Competition of the Season

HONOLULU— The University of Hawai'i swim and dive team will be back action beginning on Thursday for a dual-double style match with UNLV and Wyoming at Buchanan Natatorium.
 
Who: Hawai'i vs. UNLV, Hawai'i vs. Wyoming 
When: Thursday, Jan. 28, 2021 & Friday, Jan. 29, 2021
Time: All day- both days

Coaches: Head coach Elliot Ptasnik is in his second season at UH. Ben Loorz is in his fifth season at UNLV. Dave Denniston is in his fifth season at Wyoming.
 
• UH is coming off championship seasons on both the men's and women's sides, as the Rainbow Warriors have won back-to-back MPSF Championships, while the Rainbow Wahine have won five consecutive MPSF titles.
 
• The two-day meet will be the first competition of the 2020-2021 season due to the COVID-19 Pandemic for UH.
 
• The men's team return senior contributors Franz Adam, Parker Hymer-Costa, 'aukai Lileikis, and Micah Masei from last year's championship season.
 
• Masei is a top returner in the senior class as he was named to both the MPSF First and Second teams as a junior, claiming championships in both the 100 free and 100 fly.
 
• Adding depth to the roster in terms of returners in the junior class consists of  Max Burman, John Clark, and Talon Lindquist. Followed by the group of sophomores featuring Timothy Gallagher, Kaiko Hokama-Decker, Justin Lisoway, and Tim Masten.
 
• Burman was en route to the NCAA Championships in 2020 for both the one-meter and three-meter events before being canceled due to COVID-19.
 
• Lindquist claimed the 200 fly championship in the MPSF, as he was named to both the first and second teams.
 
• Gallagher was named to both MPSF first and second teams in 2020. Placing second in the MPSF Championships for the 200 back event.
 
• The women's team return senior contributors Karolina Hajkova, Anna Kotonen, Lucia Lassma, Victoria Moretti, and Mia Tedesco.
 
• Hajkova qualified for the NCAA Championships in both the 100 and 200 back, after claiming MPSF Championships in both events.
 
• Kotonen was named to both the MPSF first and second teams as she was a significant contributor on three relay squads.
 
• Lassman registered two golds at the MPSF Championships in the 50 free and the 100 fly while being named to both the first and second teams for the conference.
 
• Moretti was the top competitor in the MPSF platform dive last season, claiming her first individual championship.
 
• Other top returns feature sophomores Anna Friedrich and Daphne Wils.
 
• Wils was named the MPSF Diver of the Year and qualified for the NCAA Championships after claiming gold in both the one-meter and three-meter diving events at the MPSF Championships.
 
• A year ago, the UNLV men's team placed second in the WAC Championships, while the women placed fourth.
 
• In 2020, the Wyoming men's team finished No. 4 in the WAC Championships and the women's team didn't qualify.
