For the last two seasons, a key component to the success of the University of Hawai'i soccer program has been the play of junior midfielder Morgan Meza. Serving as a field general by organizing the backline of defense and front line attack of the offense, it's no wonder she has played over 1,000 minutes as a freshman and as a sophomore.
Question: In two short years, what have you learned so far being a student-athlete at UH that will help you over your next two years?
Morgan Meza: Time management is a big one, and how to handle classes, practices, games, and traveling. When you're on the road for games, it is super important to prioritize the school work we are missing. Because we lost most of our spring season, it's been crucial to be adaptable given the current circumstances, but it has taught us all to be resilient.
Q: What role do you see yourself playing on this team, as you build off the success from your freshman and sophomore seasons?
MM: When I'm playing in the midfield, it's super important to connect to both the defense and the forwards. I want to continue to have a strong presence on the field that allows us to work as a team.

Q: Who are some teammates that help you and hold you accountable?
MM: My roommates/teammates (CJ Diede, Natalie Daub, McKenzie Moore) and I hold each other accountable. It goes for both on and off the field to make sure we are allocating enough time for schoolwork, as well as staying on top of soccer.
Q: How have you adjusted to being a college student, aside from being an athlete?
MM: Having my teammates double as my best friends have made the transition to college super easy. It doesn't feel like I'm as far away from home when such an amazing community surrounds me.
Q: Outside of soccer, what do you enjoy most about attending, UH?
MM: Being able to relax and spend time at the beach is a huge perk of going to UH. The scenery and the people here are like none other.
Q: What are you doing these days to stay in shape and prepare for the upcoming 2020 season?
MM: I've enjoyed going on runs outside and doing ball work to keep my foot skills sharp for the upcoming season.
Q: How good can UH soccer be in 2020?
MM: After coming off a great season, we now know what we are capable of and are eager to get back on the field. We want to finish what we started. Over quarantine, everyone seems to be working hard, so I am expecting us to have a great upcoming season.
