HONOLULU – The Hawai'i soccer team put together a dominant performance Saturday, cruising to a historic 7-0 victory over local rival Hawai'i Pacific at the UH Lower Campus Field.
The seven-goal explosion represents the most goals ever scored in a single match during the
Michele Nagamine era and stands as the third-most goals that UH has scored in a match in program history. The triumph also marks the second consecutive victory for the Rainbow Wahine (2-3-0), who completely overwhelmed the Sharks (0-2-0) from start to finish.
The day belonged to senior forward
Anuhea Aluli, who delivered a breathtaking performance by recording a historic hat trick—the first by a Rainbow Wahine player since 2018. Aluli got the scoring started early in the 10th minute, calmly converting a penalty kick at the 9:21 mark to put Hawai'i on the board first.
Just six minutes later, Aluli struck again at the 15:31 mark, capitalizing on a beautiful pass from standout freshman
Olivia Dianda to double the lead. She officially completed her magnificent hat trick in the 60th minute (59:14), finishing a clinical scoring sequence assisted by
Karissa Kira and
Jas Cayetano to make it 4-0.
The second half turned into a complete offensive showcase as the Rainbow Wahine put five of their seven goals past the HPU defense. Freshman
Jas Cayetano scored her first collegiate goal in the 51st minute (50:53), driving home an unassisted long-range strike to make it 3-0.
Tatum Porter then got in on the action, securing a second-half brace. Porter scored her first goal of the night on a penalty kick at the 79:36 mark, before
Parisa Abedi found the back of the net unassisted in the 84th minute for her first career goal. Porter then sealed the historic 7-0 scoreline in the 87th minute (86:45), scoring her second of the night off a precise assist from Abedi.
While the offense grabbed the headlines, the Hawai'i defense put together a flawless, suffocating performance. The Rainbow Wahine backline completely neutralized the Sharks, holding HPU to zero total shots and zero corner kicks over the entire 90 minutes of action. UH outshot HPU by an astronomical 34-0 margin, placing 16 of those attempts on target.
The total defensive shutdown allowed Nagamine's squad to rotate and utilize three different goalkeepers in the joint shutout. Junior keeper
Kennedy Justin earned the start and the victory, playing the opening 23 minutes before handing the net over to
Izzy Palmatier for the next 46 minutes.
Cora Bryant then came on to play the final 20 minutes, preserving UH's second straight clean sheet.
The Rainbow Wahine will look to carry the momentum into Thursday's OUTRIGGER No Ka Oi opener vs. New Mexico State on Thursday at 4 p.m. at the UH Lower Campus Field.
