Rainbow Wahine Add Two More to 2020 Recruiting Class

Honolulu— The University of Hawai'i soccer team announced the addition of two signees to its 2020 class Friday afternoon with Hallgerður Kristjánsdóttir and Julia Wolfe.

The Rainbow Wahine has signed a total of four, including Tausani Tavale and Emma Moore, back on March 3rd. So far, head coach Michele Nagamine along with associate head coach Marc Fournier and first-year assistant coach Sonia Basma have put the focus on shoring up the defense. Including Kristjánsdóttir and Wolfe, all four play a defensive position, with Moore serving as a goalkeeper.

"We are so fortunate to have Hallgerður (Kristjánsdóttir) and Julia (Wolfe) joining our Rainbow Wahine Soccer 'ohana," said Nagamine. "They're both center backs who fill a big need for us on our defensive line. The most exciting thing for me is that in addition to being excellent students with incredible character, they are very good players who will add another dimension of diversity to our already culturally diverse team."

Kristjánsdóttir, a native of Reykjavik, Iceland, will come to the island of 'Oahu as a true freshman. She previously played on the under 17 national team for Iceland and spent 13 years playing for her club team, Valur.

Nagmine on Hallgerður Kristjánsdóttir:

"Hallgerður's confidence on the ball and ability to distribute from the back is excellent. At 5'9", she will provide an aerial presence for us, and she has a very good understanding of how to manage a cohesive defensive unit."

Wolfe hails from Bjärred, Sweden, and is a transfer from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. As a freshman at JMU, Wolfe played in 11 matches and started in six. Before her collegiate career in 2019, she played in a highly completive league in Sweden with her club team, Borgeby FK, and helped lead them to the 2017 Gothia Cup, scoring the game-winning goal in the finals.

Nagamine on Julia Wolfe:

"Julia comes to use with a year of Division I experience under her belt. She is a competitor. She is tough, is not afraid to put a tackle on someone, and will add depth for us in an already solid backline."
