LEXINGTON, Ky. – For the second consecutive year, a University of Hawai'i men's volleyball staff member has been selected as the AVCA Assistant Coach of the Year. Associate coach
Milan Zarkovic is this year's recipient following assistant coach
Josh Walker in 2019.
Last season, Walker became the first UH assistant coach to win the award since it debuted in 2010.
Zarkovic completed his seventh season in 2020 under head coach
Charlie Wade who was the 2019 AVCA Coach of the Year. UH was 15-1 and ranked No. 2 in the national polls at the time of the cancellation of this season due to the coronavirus pandemic. In six previous years with the Rainbow Warriors, Zarkovic helped Hawai'i to five postseason appearances including three trips to the NCAA Tournament (2015, '17, and '19).
Zarkovic has more than a decade of national team coaching experience, most recently as head coach of Belarus' Senior National Team from 2011-12 prior to joining Wade's staff. Zarkovic was also head coach of the Serbian Junior National Team (formerly Yugoslavia and Serbia & Montenegro) from 2001-13, leading the team to a bronze medal at the European Junior Championships in 2010 and a bronze medal at the World Junior Championships in 2011.
