Rainbow Wahine Claim Five Seasonal Big West Conference Honors

Honolulu—As announced by the Big West Conference office Monday morning, the University of Hawai'i women's basketball team claimed five all-conference honors among four players.

Senior guard Julissa Tago was named to the All-Conference First Team, her first all-conference selection since being named to the All-Freshmen Team in 2017. Tago, the two time Big West Player of the week averaged 14.9 points per game this season, including 18 points per game against conference opponents. She turned in an impressive season offensively as she finished in the top 15 of seven different categories in games against conference teams, including scoring, field goal percentage, assists, free throw percentage, three-point field percentage, three-pointers made, and minutes played.

Junior forward Amy Atwell claimed two honors as she was named Best Sixth Player, and an All-Conference honorable mention. In 26 games, Atwell started in 13, but only started in one conference game, leading to her being one of the top-scoring threats in the conference coming from the bench. Atwell accounted for 10. 7 points per game and racked up seven games of scoring 10 or more points against Big West teams. She ranked No. 1 in three-point field goal percentage at .468 in conference games and finished No. 2 in three-point field goals made at 36, behind  Tago at 46.

Junior guard Jadynn Alexander claimed her first conference award by being named to the All-Defensive Team. Throughout the 2019-20 season, UH ranked as one of the best defensive teams in the conference, including scoring defense and scoring margin. Alexander played a significant role in the 'Bows' success as the defensive stopper holding the opposing team's best scoring threat to under their season average on several occasions.

Freshman Nae-Nae Calhoun made a name for herself at the start of the season and never tailed off earning a spot on the All-Freshmen Team. She controlled the pace of the 'Bows' offense as the point guard throughout the season, ranking No. 4 in the conference in assists per game at 4.06. Her assists to turnover ratio also ranked No. 4 at 2.10. As the season continued, Calhoun became more potent and developed into another scoring threat for UH at 5.4 points per game, including three games of double-digit scoring against conference opponents.

UH will look to add the biggest prize of them all later this week in the Big West Conference Tournament. The 'Bows finished the season as the No. 4 seed, earning a single-bye and will play in the quarterfinals on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. HT against Long Beach State, Cal State Fullerton, or CSUN.
