Athens, Ga.— The University of Hawai'i swim team took another step towards qualifying for the NCAA Championships with the final day of the Bulldog Invite at the Ramsey Center on the campus of the University of Georgia.
On Saturday, two school records were broken; on Sunday, another one fell. In the men's 200 free relay the team of seniors
Olli Kokko and
Mateusz Chaba, along with the tandem of junior 'aukai Lileikis and sophomore
Franz Adam, finished with a time of 1:18.41. The previous UH record sat at 1:18.79 from over 20 years ago, current assistant coach
Nick Folker was a part of the relay team who previously held the record.
The Rainbow Warriors are hopeful the time will qualify them for the NCAA Championships as they currently sit at No. 34 in the nation.
UH will now play the waiting game over the next week with various last chance meets and conference championships to see how many student-athletes will be invited to the national championships. The Rainbow Wahine will compete from Mar. 18-21 in Athens, Georgia while the Rainbow Warriors will be from Mar. 25-28, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The UH divers will have their opportunity to qualify for the NCAAs with the Zone E event in Federal Way, Washington beginning on Mar. 9 and wrapping up on Mar. 11.
