Hawai‘i Preparing For National Stage with Bulldog Invite

Athens, Ga.—A portion of the University of Hawai'i swim team made its way east for the Bulldog Invite at the Ramsey Center on the campus of the University of Georgia Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldog Invite is categorized as a last chance meet, allowing swimmers to qualify for the NCAA Championships in mid-March. Hawai'i took full advantage and set two new school records.

Senior Olli Kokko, the current record holder of the 100 breast event at 51.86, a mark he set in 2019, broke his record with a time of 51.71. His new time places him at No. 9 in the nation.

Mirroring her male teammate, junior Lucia Lassman, the current record holder of the 100 fly at 52.53 from over two years ago, surpassed it for a new record of 52.06. Placing her at No. 25 nationally.

Also helping his case is senior Kane Follows, as he placed No. 1 in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:41.51, putting him at No. 18 in the country.

Typically the NCAA will take between 25-30 swimmers with the best qualifying times in each event for the NCAA Championships. Several last chance events and conference championships will take place in the next week to 10 days. As a result, shuffling the current order, but the 'Bows' helped themselves on Saturday and will have more opportunities on Sunday with the second day of the Bulldog Invite.
