PHOENIX, Ariz. – The University of Hawai'i women's golf team finished in a tie for sixth place following the final round of the Grand Canyon University Invitational Sunday at the GCU Golf Course.
The Rainbow Wahine carded a 299 for a 601 total in the shortened, 36-hole tournament. Host GCU (576) edged California Baptist (577) by one stroke for the team title while GCU's Alexis Linam took medalist honors with a 6-under 138 total.
UH's top finisher was junior
Sahara Washington, who shot 1-under 71 for a 4-over 148 total and a tie for 16
th place. The Universal City, Texas native posted three birdies and two bogeys on her scorecard for her low round of the season.
Sophomore
Haruka Shintani finished one stroke behind Washington and tied for 18
th at 5-over after a final round 76. Junior
Tyra Tonkham shot 75 on Sunday for a 153 total and tie for 36
th while senior
Megan Ratcliffe carded 77 for a 155 total and tie for 48
th. Junior
Zoey Akagi-Bustin was DQ'd on her final round.
The tournament was shortened to 36 holes after the teams could only get one round in on Saturday.
UH will next host the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational, March 10-11 at the Kāne'ohe Klipper Golf Course on Marines Corps Base Hawai'i. Two weeks after that, Hawai'i will host the Ānuenue Spring Break Classic, March 23-25 in Kapalua, Maui.
