PHOENIX, Ariz. – The University of Hawai'i women's golf team rebounded from a rough start to finish with a first round 302 and are currently in a tie for eighth place at the Grand Canyon University Invitational Saturday at the GCU Golf Course.
In what was originally supposed to be a 36-hole day, tournament officials decided to shorten the day to one round after persistent rain forced a two-hour delay. The tournament will wrap up with a single round on Sunday.
The Rainbow Wahine started the day with a combined score of 15-over par after four holes. But after the rain delay, the team settled down posting 7-over over their final 14 holes. UH was led by sophomore
Haruka Shintani, who shot 1-over 73 and is tied for 13
th place while newcomer
Zoey Akagi-Bustin carded 2-over 74 and is tied for 18
thplace.
Junior
Sahara Washington posted 77 and is tied for 41
st place and junior
Tyra Tonkham and senior Megan Racliffe each carded 78 to tie for 49
th.
Host GCU is atop the team standings at 1-under 287, four strokes ahead of California Baptist (291). GCU's Alexis Linam shot 4-under 68 and has a one stroke lead over Seattle's Kimberlee Tottori and Portland State's Jasmine Cabajar.
The final round is scheduled for an 8:00 a.m. MT shotgun start.
