HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i softball team (4-7, 0-0 Big West) returns home after going 2-4 in the inaugural Golden State Classic. The Rainbow Wahine will host an exhibition game against British Columbia on Wednesday, Feb. 19 and then will start three straight tournaments which spans the next 25 days--beginning withe the Hawai'i Invitational. Coming to Honolulu to compete in the tournament are Portland State, UMKC, and Iowa. Ironically all three visiting teams also played in Honolulu in 2016 in three different tournaments that season. In all UH will play their next 16 games in the friendly confines of the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

Game Notes:
-Last week...The 'Bows went 2-4 at the Golden State Classic in Lake Elsinore, Calif., but three of the losses were by one run to Utah State, Army, and Loyola Marymount. On the positive side, the UH offense hit .311 as a team which included 22 extra base hits (6 doubles, 1 triple, and 15 home runs). On the negative side, the UH pitching staff came away with a 6.28 ERA last week while opponents hit .353 in the tourney.
-Junior shortstop
Nawai Kaupe led the Rainbow Wahine hitting .591 in six games, going 13-for-22 at the plate--including a double and a team-high four home runs. She also led UH with seven runs (tied with
Callee Heen), four home runs, eight RBI (tied with Angelique Ramos), a 1.182 slugging percentage and a .625 on-base percentage. Overall she leads the team with a .469 batting average and a team-high five home runs.
-Senior catcher/first baseman
Callee Heen continued her solid hitting, going .444 for the tournament. She was 8-f-18 at the plate with a triple and three home runs. She now has 42 career home runs and needs just two more to tie former UH great Kate Robinson for No. 4 in the career record book with 44. Overall, Heen is hitting .400 and leads the 'Bows with 13 RBI. She leads UH with eight walks which pushes her career total to 78 passing both Stacey Porter and Tyleen Tausaga to go into 5th place in UH's career record book.
-Senior third baseman Angelique "Cheeks" Ramos has been on fire for the past two weeks. Overall she is hitting .382 (13-for-34) with nine total extra-base hits including three doubles, a triple and three home runs--which includes a grand slam (the second of her career) which came against Sacramento State this past week. Currently she leads UH with three doubles and is second on the team with 13 hits and 12 RBI.
